Dear Members and Friends:
Wagner fans will be pleased to learn that the Baltimore Symphony is planning a "Wagner Opera Spectacular," between February 10 and 13, with performances in Baltimore, at Strathmore, and online. The highlight of the evening will be the final scene from Die Walküre, performed by acclaimed soprano Christine Goerke and bass-baritone Greer Grimsley. The program also includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, and Wagner's "Ritt der Walküren." Additional information is available here.
I would also like to let you know that our friends at the Post-Classical Ensemble have rescheduled their program Mahler's Fourth: A Wicked New Look, which was originally planned for January 19. It will now be presented on April 20 at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. The program includes:
Gustav Mahler: Funeral March (from Symphony No. 1, 1887-1888)
Arranged for chamber ensemble by Angel Gil- Ordóñez
Gustav Mahler: Wenn mein Schatz Hochzeit macht (from Songs of a Wayfarer) (1884-1885)
Arranged for bass trombone and chamber ensemble by Angel Gil-Ordóñez
Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 4 (1899-1900)
This performance will feature the second movement recast as the premiere of "Mahlerei" by Joseph Horowitz and Angel Gil-Ordóñez, for bass trombone and chamber ensemble.Additional information, and a link to purchase tickets, is available here.
I hope you will be able to enjoy these excellent programs!
