Professor Vaszonyi to give lectures on Wagner in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Bonn and Karlsruhe
Prof. Dr. Nicolas Vazsonyi - lecture on "Richard Wagner - Self-marketing and the emergence of a brand" at the WSs Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Bonn and Karlsruhe
This co-operation between several Wagner societies to create a meaningful tour for a guest speaker from overseas is an excellent example of how we can work together to give our members the benefit of shared resources.  Congratulations to the organisers and in particular to Gisbert Lehmhaus of Düsseldorf whose brainchild this is !

Prof. Dr. Nicolas Vazsonyi, Professor of German Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina, USA, and co-editor of the "Wagnerspectrum", will give a lecture tour in June to the Wagner Societies of Amsterdam (24 June), Düsseldorf (25 June), Bonn (27 June) and Karlsruhe (date tbd).  Professor Vazsonyi will present the theses of his book "Richard Wagner - the making of a brand" (published by Verlag Neumann & Königshausen in their series "Wagner in der Diskussion" Volume 7).

Vazsonyi demonstrates the innovative methods by which Wagner styled himself as a unique artist and used all available means of self-promotion for himself and his works: journal articles, programmatic writings, letters, memoirs and even his operas themselves. He thus created a unique and durable niche for his works within the highly competitive opera market.
