Wagner Days in Madrid, 12-16.May
"Encuentro Wagneriano Internacional"
The Richard Wagner Association Madrid, Associacion de Wagner Madrid, organized very successful Wagner Days from May 12-16. They were well attended, participants from all over the world, about 60-70, from about 14 associations. The Wagner Days were organized as a brotherhood event of the Madrid Association with the Bayreuth Association, but open to Wagner associations worldwide. On the first day, the opening seremonie in Real Sociedad Económica Matritense de Amigos del País, with Spanish music and speeches by Presidents of the Associations Madrid, Clara Bañeros de la De la Fuente, and Bayreuth, Honorary President Nicolaus Richter. Afterwards dinner and flamenco in Tablao de la Villa. On the second day, guided tours in Teatro Real, Madrid city and Prado Museum. On the third day a wonderful performance of the Meistersinger from Nuremberg in Teatro Real. Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, directed by Laurent Pelly. On the last day a trip to Toledo was offered, which took place in very nice weather, we visited the famous Cathédrale but also made a tour in the city center. Toledo was the favorite city of Josef Lienhart and El Greco.
