Richard Wagner's 210. Birthday celebrated with a lecture in Reykjavik
With the lecture "Ave Libertas! Wagnerians in Brazil around 1900", Richard Wagner's birthday was celebrated yesterday in Reykjavik!
Lecture by Egill Arnarson on the generation of composers in Brazil around the turn of the century 1900 who drew inspiration from Wagner and/or saw him as a role model. After the lecture and a break, -with prosecco and birthday cake, - a video was shown of the opera Artemis by Alberto Nepomuceno (from 1898).
It was a great joy for all present that the Icelandic baritone, Olafur Kjartan Sigurdarson, who was visiting Iceland, came to the event as a guest. A group of supporters from the association will enjoy him in the summer as Alberich in Bayreuther Ring!
On the photos, Sigurdarson, with president Selma Gudmundsdottir and with his wife Sigurbjörg, also some members who will go to Bayreuth in the summer, looking very much forward to the experience!
