RWV Hannover - Our honorary member Cornelius Meister to conduct the opening premiere of the Bayreuth Festival
It took a long time this year for the Bayreuth Festival to publish the programme for this summer. This week the time had finally come and we are particularly pleased that our honorary member and former scholarship holder Cornelius Meister, General Music Director of the Stuttgart State Opera since 2018, will conduct Tristan und Isolde as the opening premiere. On 25 July, Stephen Gould and Catherine Foster, among others, will be heard in the title roles under his baton. It is Cornelius Meisters' debut on the Grüner Hügel.
"Ever since I first experienced the exhilaration of Bayreuth's acoustics in 1998 at the latest, it has been my dream to conduct here myself one day. Back then, as an eighteen-year-old, I cheekily sat down in the conductor's chair in the orchestra pit during a tour of the Festspielhaus; six years later I sat there again as an assistant. Now I am full of gratitude and anticipation to 'return' to Bayreuth with Tristan und Isolde - at least that's how it feels to me in all the attachment I feel to Richard Wagner, the Festival and Bayreuth," says Cornelius Meister.
We rejoice with our honorary member and wish him every success in the "Mystic Abyss".
