News from the Finnish Wagner Society
Here is an update from this large and highly active Northern Wagner Society:
Harry Kupfer´s Parsifal made a succesful return to Finnish National Opera in May
Richard Wagner’s final opera is a tale of mystery. Indeed, Parsifal is not so much an opera as a journey into another reality, a plunge deep into the world of myths. Time has no meaning as the viewer is immersed for five hours in the world of Parsifal. Director Harry Kupfer’s masterly directed Parsifal was a huge success in Finnish National opera in May. The revival is from 2005 but it still is one of the company´s most magnificent achievements of all time. In the main roles shined Austrian tenor Nikolai Schukoff as Parsifal, Finnish mezzo-soprano Tuija Knihtilä who was praised for her role debut as Kundry, Tommi Hakala as Amfortas, Jukka Rasilainen as Klingsor, Jyrki Korhonen as Gurnemanz and Koit Soasepp as Titurel. The conductor in the pit was famous Pinchas Steinberg.
The FNO Parsifal was also broadcasted by YLE and it can be listened from YLE Arena till September 2018

LEIPZIG comes to Korsholm Music Festival 2018
Korsholm´s chamber music festival (25.7.2018-1.8.2018) theme this year is Leipzig.
All musicians and composers who were drawn to Leipzig had the same goal, to completely surround themselves with what they lived for, artmusic.
Bach, Mendelssohn, Wagner, Grieg, Robert and Clara Schumann and many more are famous names to us. Alongside their music we will hear some less known gems this summer, from composers – both men and women – who also got their knowledge and inspiration from Leipzig.
World famous Swedish mezzosoprano Katarina Karneus sings Richard Wagner´s Wesendonck Lieder 30.7.2018 in Korsholm`s Church.
